ARTifariti is the name of the International Art Encounters in the Western Sahara taking place in the liberated city of Tifariti. Now in its sixth year, these artistic events take place from October 20 to November 3 2012.

Begun in 2007, ARTifariti is an event involving contemporary art practices used as a tool for the defense, transformation and activation of a specific social, cultural and geopolitical context. It is an annual workshop focusing on the conflict arising out of the decolonization of the Western Sahara and the violations of individual and collective human rights in this territory. ARTifariti is one of a number of international activities and programs that examine the relationship between art and human rights, while also considering art activity in relation to a local community, outside of the studio and gallery system.
